📅 Food Holidays

We celebrate a couple of fun food holidays this week. They're silly little holidays but it gives us an opportunity to make some memories and have some fun!

  • October 1 is National Pumpkin Spice Day - a good time to have this Pumpkin Baked Oatmeal for breakfast and start the day (and the month) right!
  • October 4 is National Taco Day. There are so many ways to get that great taco flavor but this easy taco pizza recipe is my favorite.
  • The pizza dough keeps in the refrigerator for a week. It's so easy my grandson makes his own pizzas and he's just 4. It's fabulous for family movie night!
  • Use the pizza dough to make breakfast pizzas with scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese.
  • Double the breadsticks and save half for the million dollar spaghetti night.
  • A little leftover Santa Fe Chicken? Add some chicken stock and a can of Rotel tomatoes and warm it up for a great soup supper!

🍹This week's cocktail

A pink cocktail in an on the rocks glass.

Durango Cocktail

The Durango is a cousin to the more refined Paloma. Reposado tequila, grapefruit juice, and amaretto create a pretty amazing sip!

Pizza

I love this easy no knead pizza dough. Give everyone their own batch, put toppings in bowls, and let them make their own pizza. It's perfect for family movie night.

Broccoli Salad

This crunchy broccoli salad is the perfect addition to pizza night!

Slow Cooker Santa Fe Chicken

Super easy weeknight dinner! Santa Fe Chicken simmers in the slow cooker and has all that southwestern flavor we love.

Garlic Bread

I love this soft garlic copycat Fazoli's breadstick recipe! They are SO easy and we like them better than the restuarant!

Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes

These spicy chocolate cupcakes are absolutely delicious - but you can save time and make them as a 13x9 inch sheet cake if you like.

Biscuits

Light, flaky, fluffy buttermilk biscuits go with everything but they are essential with chicken fried steak.

Lemon Ice Box Pie

Lemon Ice Box Pie is a favorite around here - no baking required!

October 4

Meatballs glazed with a garlic sauce in a white bowl.

Honey Garlic Meatballs

Honey garlic meatballs are tangy and delicious - we love them with rice but they'll go with about anything. Try them with the leftover mashed potatoes.

Green Bean Salad

Cool and crisp green bean salad is a delicious side dish. Leave the potatoes out if you feel like that's too many carbs.

A serving of pumpkin cake with a bite taken out of it.

Pumpkin Spice Cake

Easy 3 ingredient pumpkin spice cake is the perfect dessert to end this meal!

October 5

Cheeseburger Skillet

This easy cheeseburger skillet is gooey and creamy - definitely kid friendly.

Scalloped Tomatoes

Old fashioned scalloped tomatoes are buttery and sweet with a crunchy toast topping. If you've never had them you're missing out!

Dutch Apple Pie

Is it even fall if there's not at least one Dutch apple pie for dessert? I don't think so!

October 6

Swiss Steak

You've gotta love this easy, vintage recipe! Crockpot Swiss steak is so tender and delicious !

Spiced Apples

I love these pretty spiced apples in the fall! They're easy to make and they'll last a good long time in the fridge.

Gooey Brownies

The gooey-est dark chocolate and pecan brownies ever invented - I promise.

Million Dollar Spaghetti

Assemble this million dollar spaghetti casserole recipe a day or two ahead of time and just slip it in the oven when you get home from work. Serve with leftover breadsticks!

Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

Soft and fluffy whole wheat rolls got with everything. They freeze well, too.

Vanilla pudding

Vanilla Pudding

Creamy, homemade vanilla pudding is so easy to make - it makes a great pie filling, too. Try adding ¼ teaspoon almond extract to the pudding.
