❤️ Why you'll love it

  • Incredibly easy recipe. Three-ingredient easy, to be exact!
  • Gooey caramel sauce and tender apples pair perfectly with moist, delicious cake.
  • Very little prep work is needed to make the perfect quick dessert for potlucks, holiday dinners, or cozy family movie nights!

Apple dump cake is the easiest dessert to make because you simply "dump" all the ingredients into the slow cooker—no mixing, blending, whipping, or beating necessary. The only thing that makes it better is a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some whipped cream on top!

🧾 Ingredients

This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the green recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.

Labeled ingredients for caramel apple dump cake.

🔪 Instructions

This is an overview of the instructions. Full instructions are in the green recipe card at the bottom of the page.

Steps showing how to make this dump cake.
  1. Melt the butter in a small bowl.
  2. Spoon the caramel apple pie filling into the greased crockpot.
  3. Top the apples with yellow cake mix.
  4. Pour the melted butter carefully over the cake mix and cook.

🥫 Storage

This crockpot caramel apple dump cake recipe is just as easy to store as it is to make!

Let leftovers cool to room temperature before packing them into an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to four days. You can eat it cold, or warm it in the microwave to your liking.

This dump cake is made with simple ingredients that all freeze well, so feel free to seal any leftovers tightly in plastic wrap and freeze them for up to three months. Let thaw in the refrigerator and then microwave to heat.

📖 Variations

Caramel apple dump cake is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser, especially with your special touch of personalization!

  • Embrace your favorite flavor with a different cake mix. You could try a white, vanilla, chocolate, or spice cake mix!
  • Or, switch it up with alternate fruit fillings. Pineapple, blueberry, or cherry pie filling would taste great, too.
  • Get fancy with different toppings. Cinnamon sugar is our personal favorite, but you could also try sprinkling the top of the cake mix with nuts, oats, caramel bits, white chocolate chips, or an extra caramel drizzle.

💭 Things to know

Expert Tip: You can check the apple dump cake for doneness the same way you check a cake baked in the oven. Stick a toothpick in the middle and if the toothpick has wet batter on it, keep 'er cooking. Keep in mind that moist crumbs are okay, and the caramel apples underneath will be gooey.

  • As always when cooking in a crockpot, keep the lid closed as much as possible. This helps maintain proper cooking temperature.
  • Spray the crock with no-stick cooking spray before adding the apples for easy clean up!

👩‍🍳 FAQs

Instead of canned pie filling, can I use homemade?

Sure! Using fresh apples seasoned with apple pie spice is a great way to enhance the authentic fall flavors.

Is there any way to bake the apple caramel cake more quickly?

If you'd like to speed up the process, follow the same instructions above using a baking dish or casserole dish instead. Bake at the temperature indicated on the cake box for around 45-55 minutes.

Do I need to add the other ingredients mentioned on the back of the boxed cake mix?

Nope, don't add anything to the cake mix! Layer the dry cake mix over the apple mixture, then add the butter on top of that. The beauty of a dump cake is in its simple assembly.
