I love a good pie recipe but don't always have the time to whip one up from scratch. Plus, when it's hot, I'd rather not warm up the house even more by turning on the oven.

Luckily, I don't have to with this no bake Hershey pie recipe!

It's loaded with chocolate flavor and ooey-gooey marshmallows for an irresistible dessert that tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen. However, in reality, it takes no time at all!

  1. Add the milk and marshmallows to a saucepan, and melt.
  2. Stir the chocolate into the melted marshmallows mixture, and let cool.
  3. Gently fold in the cool whip.
  4. Spoon the mixture into the crust, and chill.

🥫 Storage

Leftover pie? Promptly cover your no bake chocolate pie with plastic wrap, and place it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

If you want to make it ahead of time, this pie will freeze beautifully.

However, I recommend leaving the Cool Whip topping off until you're ready to serve. Once made, wrap the pie in a double layer of plastic wrap and foil, and store it for up to 2 months.

📖 Variations

  • Add a sprinkle of espresso powder.
  • Use a homemade crust.
  • Before serving, add more Oreo cookie crumbs on top.
  • Chocolate shavings are pretty on top, too.
  • Switch up the chocolate, and use dark chocolate instead!

💭 Things to know

Expert Tip: Don't use chocolate chips! They contain stabilizers that prevent them from melting which could result in a lumpy pie. You need classic Hershey bars.

  • Fold in half the whipped topping and then once it's well mixed fold in the other half. This will keep the whipped topping from deflating.
  • For easy slicing, run your knife under hot water for about 30 seconds, and be sure to wipe it off after each slice.
  • A chocolate cookie crust makes this a chocolate lover's dream but you can use a graham crackers crust if you prefer.
  • Don't fret if the crust crumbles a bit when serving. No bake pies are known to be messy. It's part of their charm!

Can I use chocolate pudding instead of candy bars?

No. The texture will be completely different. Hershey's milk chocolate bars give the pie the right texture and flavor.

Do I have to use Hershey's chocolate?

Technically, no. Just make sure you use a high-quality brand like Godiva, Ghiradelli, etc.

Can I make my own pie crust?

Sure! If you've got the time, feel free to make your own Oreo cookie crust.

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

  • 16 marshmallows, large
  • ½ cup milk
  • 8 ounces Hershey chocolate bars, about 6 regular sized bars
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • Oreo crumb crust

Instructions

  • Break the chocolate into small pieces. Reserve 8 pieces for garnish.
  • Place the marshmallows and the milk in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Stir until the marshmallows are completely melted.
  • Remove the pan from heat and stir in the chocolate.
  • Stir until all of the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Let the chocolate filling cool. This takes about 30 minutes.
  • Fold in the Cool Whip.
  • Spoon the chocolate mixture into the Oreo crust.
  • Spray a piece of plastic wrap with no stick cooking spray and cover the pie.
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 2 days.
  • Just before serving garnish with a dollop of Cool Whip and a piece of chocolate.
