The ginger flavor combined with the hot sauce gives the drink a bite that leaves your lips tingling. Make it in a pitcher because this is going to disappear fast!

💭 Tips for success

Expert Tip: Grate some fresh ginger in the bottom of the shaker and muddle along with the basil for extra ginger flavor. Be sure to strain out.

  • If you like it a little spicier garnish with a couple of jalapeno slices.
  • Crushed ice keeps this tequila cocktail icy cold - but regular ice cubes are fine.
  • Fresh basil leaves are pretty but you can garnish with lime, a peach slice, jalapeno or anything you like.
  • Ginger beer and tequila taste great without the other ingredients in a pinch.
  • Gingerale can stand in for the ginger beer.

When a mule cocktail is made with tequila it's called a Mexican mule. It's usually some combination of tequila and ginger beer with lime or other citrus.

Which ginger beer is the best?

That depends on your love of ginger! I prefer Reed's Jamaican Extra Ginger, but other possibilities are Bundaberg, or FeverTree.
