Dinner at Texas Roadhouse technically begins when you order, but we all know the real opening ceremony is that basket of warm rolls and cinnamon honey butter hitting the table. One minute everybody is behaving normally; the next, you're negotiating custody of the last roll. This homemade version brings all that buttery nonsense home.

🥰 Is this cinnamon honey butter recipe for you?

  • Make it if: You love that fluffy cinnamon honey butter at Texas Roadhouse and believe warm bread is mostly a socially acceptable butter-delivery system.
  • Skip it if: You prefer plain or savory butter. This one is unapologetically sweet.
  • Why mine is different: A tiny pinch of chipotle deepens the cinnamon and adds warmth without making it spicy. Leave it out for the classic copycat flavor.

If flavored butter is your particular weakness, my pecan praline honey butter is another dangerously good decision.

🧾 Ingredients

Nothing complicated hiding in this ingredient list, just butter, honey, cinnamon, and a few pantry staples conspiring to make warm bread irresistible. The tiny pinch of chipotle is my addition; it gives the cinnamon a little extra warmth without turning your innocent dinner roll into a 4-alarm fire. A hand mixer is the best way to get the light and fluffy texture.

Ingredients for cinnamon honey butter including butter, honey, powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and chipotle
  • Butter - Use salted butter and let it soften completely. Cold butter has no interest in becoming fluffy just because you have a schedule.
  • Powdered sugar - Stabilizes the butter and helps give it that smooth, whipped Texas Roadhouse texture.
  • Cinnamon - The whole reason we're here. Warm, cozy, and considerably more interesting than plain honey butter.
  • Chipotle - My little plot twist. Just a pinch deepens the cinnamon without making the butter spicy. Leave it out if you want the classic copycat version.
  • Vanilla - Rounds out the cinnamon and honey and makes the whole situation taste a little more decadent.
  • Honey - Adds sweetness, flavor, and that gorgeous golden drizzle. Use a honey you actually like because there are only six ingredients here and nowhere for mediocrity to hide.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, or 3 if you'd like a little more
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon chipotle, optional

Instructions

  • Add the softened butter to a medium bowl and whip until light and fluffy.
  • If powdered sugar is lumpy sift it or break up the lumps. Beat in the powdered sugar with a hand mixer for 2 to 3 minutes, or until smooth, light, and fluffy.
  • Add in the remaining ingredients and whip.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate until needed. Let refrigerated butter soften at room temperature before serving.

Notes

Storage:
Store in an airtight container at room temperature 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Tips:
  • Cinnamon honey butter is better if you refrigerate it for a few hours before serving.
  • Start with very soft butter. Room-temperature butter whips up lighter and smoother. If it's still cool and firm, you'll spend several minutes chasing lumps around the bowl.
  • Whip it longer than you think. Give it a full 2 to 3 minutes with the hand mixer. You're looking for noticeably lighter, fluffier butter, not merely ingredients that have agreed to coexist.
  • Go easy on the chipotle. It should deepen the cinnamon and add a little smoky warmth, not announce itself. Taste after whipping and adjust if needed.

😱 What can go wrong (and how to fix it)

🍯 The butter is lumpy.
Your butter was probably too cold. Let it sit at room temperature until it's soft enough to press easily with a finger, then whip it again. Microwave roulette is how we end up with butter soup.

🍯 It's not light and fluffy.
Keep beating. Give it a good 2 to 3 minutes with the hand mixer so the butter gets lighter and incorporates some air. This is one of those rare occasions when beating something actually improves its disposition.

🍯 The chipotle is too noticeable.
We're looking for warm, smoky background notes, not a five-alarm biscuit. Start with less next time, or beat in a little more softened butter and powdered sugar to tame the batch you have.

🍯 It's too sweet.
Add another tablespoon or two of softened salted butter. Different honeys vary in sweetness, and apparently even bees refuse to standardize their product.

🍯 It got hard in the refrigerator.
Completely normal. Let it sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before serving, then give it a quick stir or whip to bring back that soft, spreadable texture.
