🗝️ Key takeaways

  • This is one of the easiest slow cooker recipes—dump in a few simple ingredients, and you're good to go.
  • Feed the whole family on a chilly weeknight, or ladle it into bowls for a hearty tailgate meal.
  • Using canned beans is my favorite way to speed up prep and add amazing, mouthwatering flavor.

I can't decide if my favorite part of this dish is the savory Polish sausage, the sweet and tangy BBQ bean mixture, or the five-minute prep time.

Slow cooker kielbasa and baked beans is a great recipe in the summer, fall, and winter—you really can't go wrong choosing this one.

🧾 Ingredients

This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the green recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.

📖 Variations

  • Feel free to swap the kielbasa for a different type of sausage you prefer. Spicy andouille sausage or chicken sausage are good alternatives.
  • Amp up the flavor by adding some chopped, crispy bacon.
  • The beer is key in this original recipe. However, if you don't consume alcohol, you could swap it with beef/chicken broth or a dark soda.
  • Add some heat by stirring in jalapenos, cayenne pepper, or hot sauce.
  • Try making this recipe with Ranch style beans instead of baked beans for a savory southwestern twist. Just cut out the sugar.

🔪 Instructions

This is an overview of the instructions. Full instructions are in the green recipe card at the bottom of the page.

Step by step images showing how to make baked beans and kielbasa in the slow cooker.
  1. Place the beans, kielbasa sausage, and onions in a slow cooker.
  2. Add the half-cup of barbeque sauce and brown sugar.
  3. Pour in the beer.
  4. Give everything a good stir and cook on low for 4-6 hours.

🥫 How to store leftovers

I love cooking a big batch of slow cooker kielbasa and baked beans for Sunday gameday. I always hope for leftovers—they make an easy weeknight meal on busy Mondays.

Refrigerator

Let leftovers cool, then scoop them into an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap. Kielbasa and beans last for about five days in the refrigerator.

Freezer

If you use a freezer-safe container, your leftovers can last up to six months! Simply let it thaw in the fridge the night before you want to enjoy.

Reheat

Reheating is easy. Dump everything into a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until hot. Otherwise, heat individual portions in the microwave 'til steamy.

💭 Things to know

Expert Tip: Letting the kielbasa and beans simmer for a while without the lid lets them thicken to your liking. If you prefer the beans recipe to taste a little looser, keep the lid on longer.

  • For extra flavor you can saute the sliced kielbasa in a skillet (before adding to the crockpot) until the edges are caramelized.
  • Smoked sausage is fully cooked. Be sure to find a kielbasa that's smoked, not raw.
  • Coat your slow cooker with some cooking spray before adding the ingredients to make cleanup easier.
  • You can leave the kielbasa and beans out on the warm setting in the crockpot. This is great on game day (in case anyone gets hungry during overtime) or on weeknights when everyone's schedule is different!

👩‍🍳 FAQs

Can I choose any type of baked beans?

Sure thing! Go ahead and grab your favorite variety. The kind you choose will help add flavor, so pick one you know you enjoy.

How can I make this recipe without a crockpot?

It's easy! Combine the ingredients in a heavy Dutch oven or stockpot on the stove. Bring it up to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until it's thickened and hot. The cooking time won't be long at all.

What can I substitute for the beer?

Use ginger ale or root beer instead of beer if you prefer.
