🍢 Proof that food on a stick is always a good idea

  • They're stupid easy. Frozen chicken, toaster waffles, and ten minutes of your time-boom, you look like Martha Stewart with better taste in snacks.
  • Perfect for showing off. Whether it's brunch, game day, or a holiday buffet, these little skewers scream "I brought the fun thing."
  • Sweet, salty, crunchy, chewy-they've got range. Like a brunch Beyoncé, they hit every note.
  • No fork, no fuss, no one double-dipping in the spicy maple syrup. Food on a stick = fewer dishes and no family drama. Win-win.

🧾 Ingredients for chicken and waffle skewers

Nothing fancy here, just everyday stuff that somehow turns into brunch magic on a stick. If you can toast a waffle and open a syrup bottle, you're qualified.

Labeled ingredients for party chicken and waffle bites.
  • Chicken nuggets - Store-bought, frozen, and proudly judgment-free. Pick your favorite, or just grab whatever's on sale and vaguely chicken-shaped.
  • Frozen mini waffles - Or regular ones ruthlessly cut down to size like a Southern aunt's passive-aggressive compliments.
  • Maple syrup - The real stuff if you're fancy, or the bottle with the smiling grandma if you're feeling nostalgic and chaotic.
  • Butter - Melted, golden, and absolutely not optional. This is brunch, not a health seminar.
  • Ground chipotle - For a smoky little kick that says, "I may be on a stick, but I've got opinions."
  • Skewers - Because food on a stick is always 37% more fun and exactly 0% more complicated.

Course Appetizer
Cuisine American - Southern
Servings:20

Author:Marye Audet-White

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces frozen chicken nuggets, about 20 pieces
  • 24 ounces mini frozen waffles, Eggo minis work perfectly
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ¼ cup maple syrup, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 pinch ground chipotle , optional
  • 20 toothpicks or 4-6" appetizer skewers

Instructions

  • Bake the nuggets according to the package directions. We want 'em hot and crispy.
  • While the nuggets bake, toast the mini waffles until golden. Try not to eat them all.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter and maple syrup. Add a pinch of cayenne or chipotle if you want to sass it up.
  • Brush the waffles lightly with the maple butter mixture for extra holiday magic.
  • Assemble the skewers: waffle on the bottom, nugget on top. Skewer through both.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup just before serving-or set out a small bowl for dipping.

Notes

Storage:
Store fully assembled skewers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to bring back the crisp. Microwave if you're feeling lazy, but don't expect applause.
Tips:
Party hack: Assemble ahead, then warm in the oven before serving. That way you can look calm and collected while secretly being two mimosas in.

🔪 How to make chicken and waffle kabobs

If you can operate a toaster and stab things with a stick, you've already mastered this recipe. Let's make magic happen.

Step. by step images showing how to make these easy party appetizers.
  1. Stir up that maple chipotle butter like the brunch-ologist you are.
  2. Brush it all over those waffles-don't be shy, they like it.
  3. Skewer hot nuggets and waffles like you're building a delicious little tower of power.
  4. Serve with extra dip and a smug smile. You crushed it.

🕒 Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. Assemble the skewers a few hours ahead and pop them in the fridge. Just warm them in the oven or air fryer before serving so they don't taste like cold regret.

🍴Need an excuse to keep eating?

Scroll with caution-these recipes have been known to cause cravings, spontaneous baking, and sudden popularity.

Ham and Cheese Sliders
Sweet, salty, melty, and just chaotic enough to cause an appetizer pile-up. These little guys disappear faster than gossip at a baby shower.

Crispy Baked Wings
Hot, crispy, and just dangerous enough to make you forget your manners. Napkins optional. Finger-licking? Required.

Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits
Soft, sticky, and wildly inappropriate in the best possible way. Like your favorite ex, but edible and way more reliable.

Whether you're throwing a holiday brunch, feeding a game day crowd, or just need an excuse to serve food on sticks like a fabulous woodland creature, these chicken and waffle skewers bring the flavor and the flair. They're easy, addictive, and just the right amount of over-the-top-kind of like your favorite aunt after two mimosas. Go ahead and make a double batch. Regret is temporary, but syrup-sticky happiness is forever.

Interesting little appetizer. We use to get together at my niece 's house my sisters and I would compete who could make a different type of appetizer or dip. This one would win. My Jalapeno popper dip was always a favorite.

Marye's recipes are really wonderful. I have made her white breads repeatedly for my husband and they are my go to sandwich breads. Her bundt cakes are fabulous too. Haven't made this recipe yet but I look forward to it as her recipes are consistently good and the directions excellent. Thanks Marye, love cooking with you. The newsletter is very clever too!

Chicken and waffles are "a thing" in Nashville, where I used to live. As to an appetizer? I go the really easy route - using a block of cream cheese covered with either Jalapeño jelly or Pickapepper - don't knock it til you've tried it - it's pretty awesome!
