Best Kahlua Cake Recipe because It’s “From Scratch”

I love Kahlua. Almost as much as Baileys, as a matter of fact. In essence, I am saying that I like sweet, dessert-like, girly drinks. That works fine for me and always has since I am, of course, a girl.

The idea of a Kahlua cake holds so many possibilities. Chocolate Kahlua? Spice Kahlua? Vanilla Kahlua? I think I have decided on all of the above but, as always, chocolate comes first in my life.

This chocolate bundt cake is a from scratch Kahlua cake. I know that cake mixes are handy and all but I just don’t like the idea of not knowing exactly what’s in them or how to pronounce it. You are rarely going to get convenience food recipes from my blog – it happens but just not that often. As the food industry is increasing compromised by things like GMOs, high fructse corn syrup, and chemicals no one can pronounce… and as big business increasingly controls the government – well you know, I have to take a stand somewhere. This is it.

This cake is moist, gets a chocolate boost from cocoa as well as bittersweet chocolate chips, has plenty of Kahlua and caramel vodka for flavor, AND is soaked in a Kahlua white chocolate syrup and then covered with a Kahlua white chocolate glaze.

Helloooooo.

You will need a bundt pan, the ingredients, and an oven that works. You won’t even need a mixer for this easy cake. It goes together easily with just a bowl and a spoon.

I use butter to grease the pan but you can use baking spray if you like.

Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan until it is golden. This give the cake another layer of flavor. Makes it interesting. remove from heat.

Add sugar to the melted butter.

Now add the cocoa and whisk into the butter.

Mix the kahlua and caramel vodka together and add to the cocoa mixture. Whisk until it is smooth and let come to room temperature.

Once it has cooled add the eggs, sour cream, salt, flour, baking powder, and baking soda.

Stir in the chocolate chips.

Spoon the cake batter into the bundt pan and bake. Don’t over bake this or it will dry out. Remember that some chocolate from the chocolate chips may show on your cake tester when you do test it.

Once it is out and glazed it looks like this. For about two minutes…until your family smells it and rushes into the kitchen to eat it.

If you have an hour this cake can be in your belly. All of it…because you won’t want to share.

White Chocolate Kahlua Ganache Glaze

This is rich and easy…use it to glaze the cake and also to sauce the plate.

Because the Kahlua is brought to a simmer with the cream most of the alcohol is gone and it is safe for your kids to eat… but you might want to tell them it is an adults only cake… you’ll get more of it that way.

all of the liquor stores i live around say that the caramel vodka has been discontinued… what else could i use? or could i just leave it out?

I think I would try Bailey’s or even cream soda. As long as you add 1/4 cup liquid I don’t think it will matter.
