Day of the Dead Bread

Dia de los Muertos is celebrated Nov 1-2 in Mexico as a way to remember family members who have passed on.

Parades, songs, and special foods are all part of the festivities. Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead) is one delicious tradition!

Yeast

Eggs

Butter

Oranges

water

Vital wheat gluten

All purpose flour

Milk

salt

sugar

Anise

Mix yeast, sugar, & water. Let stand for 10 minutes. Then add milk , butter, & eggs.

Mix the dry ingredients together. Add the wet and dry ingredients together.

Add remaining flour & knead smooth. Put in greased bowl.

Let rise until double. Punch down.

Separate the doguh. Make a knob for the top.

Roll out "ropes" and shape like bones. Let rise.

Bake!

– The glaze and sugar will go on better if you brush ¼ of the hot bread with glaze, sprinkle with sugar, and then move on to the next ¼.

– If the bread gets a little stale slice it and make French toast with it. Delish!
