- Make sure the berries are completely dry. Any water at all, even a drop, left on a berry could cause te chocolate to seize up and be ruined.
- Melting the chocolate with a Electric Melting Pot
- Use a toothpick to dip the berries into the chocolate and then push the pick into styrofoam with the strawberry up in the air. This will keep the chocolate even around the berry rather than giving you one side that is flat.
- Before the berries dry completely roll them in sprinkles.
- You can use any type of chocolate you like, however you should be aware that the higher quality the chocolate the better it will taste and respond in this recipe.
- Try a combination of bittersweet, dark, and milk chocolates for the best and most intense flavor.
- The berries should be completely ripe without being mushy. Your finished berries will only be as good as the ingredients you start with.
- Be sure that the chocolate is chopped well for melting.
- Once the berries are dipped and set you can go back and drizzle them with white chocolate or other chocolates, for a beautiful effect.

- 16 ounces chocolate, , chopped
- 2 tablespoons Crisco
- 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
- StyroFoam sheet
- Wash the berries gently but don’t hull them. Set them aside to dry completely.
- Once they are dry wipe them gently with paper towel before dipping.
- Insert the toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
- Melt the chocolate and shortening,in the microwave stirring often until smooth.
- Hold the strawberry carefully by the toothpick, dip it into the chocolate mixture.
- Twirl the berry slightly to allow the excess chocolate to flow around the berry.
- Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam. Allow the chocolate to set before decorating.
- The Crisco gives the chocolate a nice sheen in this recipe but it isn’t absolutely necessary.

How to Make Tuxedo Strawberries
Tuxedo strawberries look fantastic on the grooms table at a wedding. These are only a little more complicated than the plain dipped berries but are hundreds of times more awe inspiring. Give yourself a bit more time as the chocolate will need to harden after each layer.
- Dip the strawberry in the white chocolate first.
- Allow the chocolate to set.
- Dip the back half of the berry in dark chocolate and allow it to set. This creates the “tuxedo” effect.
- Once this sets you will use the dark chocolate to make buttons and a bow tie.
