I was given an exclusive invitation to attended the Fat Daddy’s patio party kickoff with DFW Bloggers in Mansfield, Texas. Although I was not paid to attend this event, food and a couple of cocktails were provided at no cost. As always my opinions are uncensored and definitely my own.
July is a crazy busy month for us. We have birthdays on the 1,3, and 11 plus we generally do something for the 4th. So, when I was invited to attend Fat Daddy’s patio party on the 3rd to check out their new patio area I wasn’t sure I was going to go. Still, an evening out with the hubs, no kids in tow? It was too tempting. I agreed.
Fat Daddy’s in Mansfield is about 40 minutes away. I had never been there and wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, I’d been to Mansfield but it had been years… and things around here change fast!
The interior is comfortable, with the tables spaced far enough apart for privacy, a long bar, a decent sized dance floor, and a stage. The patio area almost doubles the space and has two fireplaces that will be awesome in the cooler months. Glass garage type doors can be pulled down to close in the patio in the event of inclement weather. There are a couple of comfortable conversation pit type seating areas as well and the numerous tables and chairs. It’s a great spot to watch the sun go down and catch one of our intensely colorful sunsets as you sip a frozen strawberry margarita (very good, by the way). There is no smoking inside but it is allowed on the patio.
They do local shows as well as more well known artists. They mentioned several but y’all know I am old so the only ones I recognized were Vanilla Ice and AC/DC.
There’s an area with pool tables that looked interesting. I haven’t played pool in just about forever — one of these days I may go back and see if I can still shoot. There are also plenty of giant TVs all around, inside and out, which will come in handy during football season.
They put up a buffet for us. I wish that we could have ordered from the menu because it would have given me a better idea of the quality of the food — and that is my area. I did like the Stuffed Jalapenos, hand breaded and stuffed with smoked chicken, Monterey Jack, and roasted bell peppers, however the chicken was dry. I’d have to say that the spicy spinach and artichoke dip was my favorite dish the whole night – I can totally recommend that. The main course was either chicken fried steak or cajun chicken breast. I tried a little of the chicken fried steak – it was average. There are some really cool looking dishes on the menu that I’ll be trying next time we’re in the area.
We were offered two cocktails but were never given menus so I had no idea what the possibilities were. I ended up with two frozen strawberry Margaritas, and then bought the Pink Cadillac because someone else got it and it looked good. The drinks are well done, don’t skimp on the booze, and are generously portioned. I wish that the server had offered me a drink menu when I asked what they had. She didn’t seem to know much about the cocktails, what they served, and what brands they carried. There are some really cool sounding cocktails that I saw when I was checking the website as I was writing this. I wish I had known about them.
It was a lovely evening all in all. If you are in DFW area and you’d like a good, not-in-the-middle-of-the-city spot to enjoy a beer, listen to some music, and maybe do some dancing this is the place to do it.Let's Keep in Touch!
