From Memorial Day to Labor Day summer has a lot of entertaining opportunities. Independence Day is probably my personal favorite when it comes to entertaining. Memorial Day sort of kicks off summer vacation, Labor Day tells it goodbye, but the 4th of July is just there, being all glitzy and fun.
As I said in the last post, Fourth of July celebrations were a summer tradition when I was growing up. It was an amazing time of parades, carnivals, fireworks, and more food than anyone could eat. I remember loving sitting in the velvet black night and watching the exploding colors light up the sky. Apparently it wasn’t always this way… My first experience with fireworks came when I was 14 months old. My parents and a few of their friends went to see the fireworks at Fair Park in Dallas. Apparently my dad ended up sitting with me outside the stadium because I screamed every time they launched one and I heard the noise. I have never been big on loud, sudden noises – but I don’t scream at fireworks displays anymore. Yay.
There were always a few dishes that made it to the picnic table. Macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, grilled burgers and hot dogs, watermelon… I bet your memories hold a similar list. No one did fancy red white and blue dipped strawberries, cakes that looked like the flag, or cupcakes with sparklers in them… just plain good food that was traditional year after year… and lots of ice cold beer.
Well, now days we have too many recipes to choose from. I don’t know about you but it is almost impossible for me to choose from all of the gorgeous images that I see on blogs and on Pinterest. So, because I am nice… and helpful… I have collected some of the coolest recipes and ideas for summer entertaining that I could find. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Pool Parties… Whatever kind of summer party you’re planning is covered in this list. I separated them in a way that seemed logical to me so that you could focus on what you were looking for.
Check them out… 🙂
