The 50 Best Snacks, Dips, and Dunks on the Internet

snacks

I am leaving tomorrow on vacation. My first since 2010, and the first vacation in decades for my kids. We are taking a family cruise through the Gulf of Mexico, and doing things like snorkeling, viewing ancient Mayan temples, and eating as much as possible. We will sleep as much as we like, read as much as we like, and just create a bubble of total relaxation after several hellish years of  adjustment to constantly changing circumstances. I can’t tell you how huge this is – nor how much we need this. It was a near impossibility to pull off – but there is no way to measure the blessing, or even to try to explain it.

Football season is here. It is probably the “snackiest” time of the entire year because football fans need to maintain their energy with humongous amounts of chips, dips, and beer. I realized that when I get back it will be in full swing and you will be creating mountains of food weekly – I wanted to make sure that this got posted before I leave. Here are recipes for everything that you’ll need to keep those football fans happy. 50 recipes for dips, chips, crackers, snacks, chili, sandwiches – you name it.

You don’t have to thank me.

Here are 50 of my favorite munchies for football season – the best, and the most interesting from all over the Internet.  Continue reading

Is There Life without Olives?

I don’t think so.

I love olives of every size, shape, and color. When I was little (and I bet you did this, too!) I would push the pitted black olives on my fingers. Sadly, I have to admit that I have, on occasion, done the same thing… as an adult… in public… without having sipped any wine at all. I’m fun like that. Continue reading

Easy Fried Cheese Recipe

fried cheese

A few days ago Marc and I spent the afternoon together and ended the day at a small Italian restaurant that we hadn’t tried before. The decor was simple but it smelled amazing inside. When I was asked if I would like some wine with dinner I gave them my challenge question.

“I don’t know what you have – do you have a ripe, fruity red?”

Now, if a waiter can come back with a glass of wine that I like from that description I am a happy, happy camper and the restaurant gains points. Lo and behold he came back with a lovely, fruity red – round, ripe berry, plum and cherry notes that were nicely balanced with a little tang at the end. I relaxed at that point – being pretty sure that they couldn’t mess too much up if they could get the wine right.

We decided to do a family style dinner which meant that we could order 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. It gave us a chance to taste a variety of dishes and really, the flavors were pretty delicious.

Overall.

One of Marc’s favorites is fried Mozzarella. I knew that would be one of the appetizers! I was waiting to see what they served… would it be homemade or would it be straight from the freezer bag?

Sigh. You know what I am going to say, don’t you? Continue reading

Disney Princess Birthday or Tea Party: Buttercream Shots

When I was planning Erin’s princess party I kept thinking that I wanted everything basically to be dainty, tiny finger foods. I wanted everything to have a delicate, princess-like quality.  It is really Shiloh’s fault that I made these. You see Shiloh is a buttercream addict. Yes. It’s true.

Not only that but she increasingly requires sprinkles. On everything. We are planning an intervention.

Anyway. It was because of Shi that I thought about buttercream shots – tiny cups of Swiss buttercream with a tiny spoon and sprinkles. No cake. No crust. No cookies. Just buttercream and sprinkles. And a spoon. Continue reading

Homemade Onion Dip

I don’t know how long onion dip has been around but I think it is a standard for any casual party, get together, or game night. You know the drill; buy the packet of dry onion soup, add sour cream and… VOILA!

Onion dip.

Except as time went by we become more aware and concerned about chemical ingredients… additives… MSG.

I have happy, happy news for you. Continue reading
