I know that I made a S’mores pie not too long ago – and it was delicious if I do say so myself – but I wanted to improve on it and change it up. What could be more delicious that a Snickers?

I have tried every way I can think of to research the beginnings of Hoosier Peanut Bars. The name sounds like something from the 1930s and I found out that a version of the bar cookies were entered into the Pillsbury Bake-Off in 1949 by Edgar Bleeke of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He won, by the way.
My version is based on a recipe from a 1950′s cookbook put out by the Federation of Women’s Clubs, who ever that was. It is a collection of recipes from all over the country and is truly falling apart on me. I love these old cookbooks. The recipes change from decade to decade and you can see how America’s tastes have changed. I would love to say that they have evolved but in most cases that wouldn’t be true. Continue reading
Is there anyone reading this, right now, that does not like chocolate cream pie? A show of hands please?
Yep, I didn’t think so. For most of us chocolate cream pie is an adventure in connecting with our inner piggy. Sweet and crunchy graham cracker crust, creamy chocolate filling and that cloud of perfect meringue piled on top – well that creates something even most restaurants can’t screw up.
When I was a kid I was addicted to those commercially created chocolate fried pies. Maybe they were something we only get around here but OMG they were sooooo good. I was so excited when I got my driver’s license because not only did it mean freedom – it meant I could pick up one of those fried pies on the way to school without my mother pointing out the zit-producing potential of what I was eating… for breakfast….
