Lavender Lemon Meringue Pie

 

lavender lemon pieA few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a pie party on Facebook, not sure who hosted but I was invited by the ever elegant Laura from Laura’s Best Recipes.  As usual  I am running late getting my post up – it was due by 2 am.

Pastry seems to scare people. I was watching MasterChef last night and the challenge was an apple pie. Most of the participants seemed horrified that they were going to have to make pastry and many of them admitted that they had never made it before. The results were pretty mixed – with some of them making obvious mistakes that resulted in icky crust. Continue reading

Disney Princess Party: Lavender Punch

What is a party with out a punch or two?

Even if you are having a genteel tea there is just something perfect about a vintage punch bowl brimming with a sparkly punch. This punch is surely fit for the Princess in your life and her entire entourage. Made with a sweet lavender syrup, it sparkles with gingerale and teases your tastebuds with tart lemon.  If the party is all adults you can even add some flavored vodka.

The color is a delicate light violet and may vary depending on the lavender buds that you use. If yours seems a little too pale for your taste you can very carefully add a tiny bit of purple food color – and I mean a tiny bit! Continue reading

Key Lime and Lavender Swiss Buttercream

Key lime and lavender is a bright, tangy combination and when added to buttercream it is fresh and perfect for spring. I used it on the French Vanilla cupcakes but it would be great on any citrus or white chocolate cake as well.

In order to get the flavor of the lavender you must infuse it into the key lime. This takes about 30 minutes. The key lime juice will exact the flavor from the lavender buds but will also extract color and may turn a little pink. Continue reading
