Bourbon Pumpkin Pie Biscotti and Torani Syrups

A few weeks ago SheSpeaks and Torani Syrup offered me the opportunity to try out a couple of syrups in my holiday baking and brewing. I have used the syrups in the past – we love Italian sodas around here – so I was happy to accept.

Torani has been around since the 1920s, helping baristas and everyone else create flavored coffees and other beverages. You don’t see a lot of people using the syrups in baking recipes though, and there is where you miss out. Instead of just adding vanilla or almond to baked goods you have an entire array of over 100 flavors – and, unless they are sugar free, they are made with pure cane sugar.

This week, as you may have seen on the Restless Chipotle Facebook page, I made cookies to send to my sons that are in the Air Force, one in Japan and one in Korea. Biscotti was on the list. Y’all seem to like my 50 Best posts so I will try to do a new one every once in awhile. One of my favorite ingredients is pumpkin whether it is sweet or savory. So, seeing how pumpkin season is in full swing it seemed like a no-brainer to see what pumpkin recipes I could find from the darkest corners of the Internet.

Lofthouse Cookies

Lofthouse cookies are a recipe that I have been trying to re-create for most of my adult life. I have so many good memories attached to them that eating them is (in most cases) a guaranteed way to lose the blues.

When I was little we lived just outside of Philadelphia in the smack center of probably one of the most historic areas of the United States. You couldn’t drive a mile without passing stone houses that were built in the 1600s and had witnessed war, peace and everything in-between for over 300 years. I didn’t have to learn about the mules that pulled flatboats along the canals because I visited those canals many times, and viewed the faded trails that the animals trudged along day after day.  History was a living thing to me, sometimes more real than the world I lived in and I escaped to the woods more than once to hunt for arrowheads, musket shells, and other relics of those who had walked those woods before me.
