Spiced Rum Snickerdoodles

There was a time in my life when I did not know what a Snickerdoodle was. Yes, sadly it is true. The tender, cinnamony goodness was unknown to my tastebuds.

That was remedied one weekend in 1974 when I spent the night at a friend’s house. Continue reading

Black Velvet Cupcakes with Orange Filling

Although we choose not to celebrate Halloween I have been wanting to create a black velvet cake for awhile – and what better season to do it in?

Grilled Pork Loin Chops with Jack Daniels Peaches

Summer is almost over. Here in Texas the 100 degree temps have hung on — sort of like trying to give a cat a bath… you know — they cling to whatever part of you they can get their claws into.

We know that the heat will be gone soon, though. While I won’t be sorry that it is gone, and it will  be nice to be able to walk barefoot on the driveway without hearing the soles of my feet sizzle like bacon in an iron skillet, the foods of summer will be missed.

This recipe for grilled pork loin chops and peaches is a delightful way to say goodbye to warm weather and those  fresh flavors.

The chops are rubbed with a combination of cinnamon, smoked paprika, cloves, and just a touch of sugar for that beautiful, crispy sear on the outside of the meat. Continue reading
