Memorial Day: Surfing for the Best Menu Ideas

Can you believe we are so close to Memorial Day? Do you make the same recipes year after year or try to change it up?

It has been a wild few days. Marc and I picked up my “online” friend, Wendy from Barefoot Momlady and Weksny Acres fame, at the airport on Thursday and dropped her back off (hopefully no worse for the wear) today. During this week she went from being an “online” friend to being an “In Real Life” friend.

Saturday Surfing

Ah… spring in Texas…green grass…. birds singing…. bluebonnets… tornado sirens, hail, and the rhythmic sound of trees crashing to the ground.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I guess much of the country has been experiencing Texas weather lately.. Don’t worry, folks.. it isn’t us sharing…its just Texas finally taking over the rest of the country.

One of the benefits is roses blooming in March and April. We pay for this in July when post 100 degree temps causes everything to stop any effort at all and just rest.

Anyway, my heirloom roses are blooming in front of the house. It may sound weird but no matter what is going on in my life roses ground me. They give me hope and the feeling I can hold on a little longer. Roses make me go back to long, barefoot summers with bumblebees buzzing and the swish-swish sound of the sprinkler hooked up to the house. Continue reading →

Saturday Surfing

Did you ever have one of those days? Well… I started this post on Saturday morning. Life happened. I get that.

I worked on it a little yesterday and then I finished it up this morning. So… it’s a little late, no big, right?

Wrong.

When I went to do something I lost all of the post except the original three links I added on Saturday morning. It was one of those what the heck moments that help you to know that it is Monday and there are several more days to go before it is Friday again. If you work for yourself then it really doesn’t matter how many days it is until Friday because you probably work all weekend, too. Am I right? Continue reading →

Saturday Surfing

The tree outside my bedroom window, the one that HASN’T fallen down from wind, flood, or snow, has tiny pinkish leaf buds on it. Could it be true? Is spring on its way?

Dang, I hope so. I am tired of cold weather, ready for warmth and summer and sitting on the porch. Excuse me, sitting on the veranda. January might be the first of the year but I have always felt that spring was. It seems more natural a beginning to me. I am excited about my new life, the opportunities that are popping up everywhere, and finally (I hope) getting my kitchen finished this year. With the new book deal (Complete Idiot’s Guides… to be published for Mother’s Day 2011 – cookbook ) I should have enough to do the restoration/remodel on the kitchen. YAY!

Blogsurfing a Few Days Late

The book signing was a blast. I will post about it soon. I did want to get the blogsurfing post up so you guys knew that I didn’t forget. This being Christmas week and all this post is gonna be a little hurried and rushed.
