I Love Cinnamon Rolls!

cookbook review

Yes, yes I do. I love them in all of their various forms and flavors but that statement is not a mere commentary on my adoration of the cinnamon roll – it’s the title of a new book I was sent for review. And, as you may guess – it’s about cinnamon rolls.

All cinnamon rolls, all the time.

Fifty, count ‘em FIFTY recipes for cinnamon rolls and each one of them looks pretty dang good. Please, before you read any further grab a cup to catch the drool. It is bad for your keyboard. You have been warned.

cinnamon roll review

Have you noticed that food bloggers are freaks about how an image looks? Well this book is full of images – large, beautiful images worthy of framing and putting on your wall. The kind that we all wish we could take all the time so that we would forever be accepted on the pages of Tastespotting, FoodGawker, and DessertStalker.

The author, Judith Fertig, is a food and lifestyle writer who has been featured in Bon Appetit, Saveur, The New York Times, and other publications. The book starts with a history of the cinnamon roll and then follows up with basic techniques. After that there are a variety of dough recipes from vegan to no knead. Once you have read through that the real recipes begin. The variety will make your head spin and your mouth water. I had a hard time choosing between the recipes but my top five to try are:

  • Pineapple Upside Down Cinnamon Rolls
  • Szechuan Pepper Cinnamon Rolls with fresh Ginger Glaze
  • Espresso Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls with Espresso Drizzle
  • Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls
  • Bacon Brown Sugar Cinnamon Rolls

The instructions an simple to follow and very clearly laid out. The font is easy to read and best of all it is in hardcover. I love hardcover books!

You will want this on your Christmas list, or buy it for yourself now and treat your family to cinnamon rolls all winter long. Because, you know, you are just that sweet.

Here’s a link to it on Amazon so that you can look inside the book. Seriously YUM!
