I have to admit having a love -hate relationship with aprons. I passionately want to look like Donna Reed or Lucy Ricardo… or one of those really hot 1930s pin-ups that cooks in JUST an apron… but as I no longer have the 22 inch waist I had in the 1970s I feel that the tied sash and embellishments I find so adorable would only serve to bring attention to my assets gone wild, so to speak.
So I buy them for Kyrie (Shiloh, although she has the adorable figure, does not have the penchant for cuteness. Now, if they were some combination of steampunk and goth with a little macabre thrown in? Yeah. Maybe.)
Cute aprons are not meant for you to wipe your hands on after you have been boning chicken or cleaning the silver-skin off of roast. They are meant to put on after you take off your chef’s coat and bistro apron. These aprons are the ones you wear for television appearances and promo shots. And to impress the husband’s boss with your cuteness.
Or, to mimic one of those pinups when the kids are away at grandmas.”Fresh baked cookies, honey?”
Kyrie likes the two of us to have matching aprons. Someday she will be a teenager and look at me disdainfully as I ask her if my outfit is o.k. but for now? Now she thinks I am cool and beautiful – which is why, for the moment, she is the one I ask when I want to know how I look.
Anyway. I was sort of playing around on Amazon today. O.k. I was procrastinating. I admit it. Happy?
And I saw this.
Children’s Apron with Cupcakes Design
Which led me to
Brown & Pink Polka Dot Josephine Apron , and I think I would really wear that…
And of course I couldn’t stop there – anyone who knows me KNOWS that I have a thing for roses… and red.
Spring Floral Red Josephine Apron
Flirty Aprons Women’s Original Frosted Cupcake Apron
And then of course…. yes. This one.
Aprons with Attitudes Will Cook for Shoes
One of these days I really will have a cute apron collection. As soon as I can decide which one to choose first.
So… Aprons. Are you an apron aficionado or do you prefer wiping your hands on your jeans because they are dirty anyway (not that I do that)? Do you wear aprons? Are they the cute ones or the utilitarian ones? AND, most of all, do you feel cute in them?
Inquiring minds want to know. Ie: I am nosy. Let’s see what the percentages are – leave a comment and let me know.
Disclaimer:
New FCC guidelines require that I tell you that if you click on one of the links above and buy something from Amazon I will get a meager percentage.

My wonderful mommy made me cute ones that are made to use. They arent cupcakes with ruffles cute but they are cute and utilitarian enough for me to wear for baking and picking up the house, which is great when the toddler decides to help!
I usually either don’t wear one OR I wear a white, lightweight chef’s jacket AND a full length bistro apron (goes to my toes) because I am THAT messy. But I really want to do cute – someday
