Can you believe we are so close to Memorial Day? Do you make the same recipes year after year or try to change it up?
It has been a wild few days. Marc and I picked up my “online” friend, Wendy from Barefoot Momlady and Weksny Acres fame, at the airport on Thursday and dropped her back off (hopefully no worse for the wear) today. During this week she went from being an “online” friend to being an “In Real Life” friend.
The really embarrassing and sad thing is that the entire 4 days she was here I did not cook one time.
Wouldn’t you think that when you visited a food writer you should be able to expect a real, cooked meal? Even a gourmet version of peanut butter and jelly, for goodness sakes. Nope. I managed to make a pie so that she would know I was not a hired impersonator but that was it.
We went antiquing, talked, talked, went to Target (which was apparently a big thrill for Wendy) and talked… we sat in the kitchen…and talked… and then we talked.
And when we got tired of that… we talked.
I actually took off from work, something I never do. Wendy helped me to realize that some of the changes I have been experiencing are normal. She helped me to come to terms with the fact that this IS my new normal. My life from 1990 is not my life now.
It was a :::facepalm::: moment.
I got to see my blogger self through the eyes of one of my readers and that was invaluable.
Wendy was inundated exposed to able to meet my kids and see them at their most “normal”. This included an evening of teenage drama. Kyrie regaled Wendy with stories from her “journal” and I think Wendy has been added to one of the stories as a mermaid.
Was it fun? Oh HECK yeah.
We even got together with Donna of Way More Homemade… And THAT was a blast, too.
If you get the chance to meet an online friend I strongly encourage you to do so.

I wanted to focus on things that you might like to add to your Memorial Day menu. So here ya go… Today we’re surfing for the best menu ideas for your picnic.

The Coconut Praline Pie totally made up for lack of any other food. So did the talking. Worth. Every. Moment.
(And…I’m a mermaid? Really? I’m flattered!)
If you are flattered about being a mermaid you may NOT want to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Just sayin…
